Welcome to the University of Illinois Division of Public Safety Web site.
It is our privilege to serve the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign community of approximately 53,000 people including: undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, faculty members, academic professionals and staff members, as well as our visitors. The University was founded in 1867, and has a long history of distinction, pride and academic excellence. Therefore, as the unit charged with ensuring safety, we take our responsibility seriously.
The information contained on our Web site is part of our continued efforts to provide the campus community with current safety information, programs, and services. As you review each page you will learn about our police services, emergency preparedness, and campus security. Each of these departments works collaboratively not only with each other, but also the broader university community as well as the communities of Urbana and Champaign. Over the past year the campus has invested significant resources in safety. Some of these initiatives include a state of the art security camera program. Using a coordinated and integrated camera system, which is located in the police department, has already proven to be an effective deterrent to crime. Along with these technologies resources, eight additional police officers have been added to the police force. These officers are also augmented by seven newly hired security officers who act as additional eyes and ears for the police department. Using a proactive community policing model in the campus district is important to our community and these new endeavors serve to enhance our efforts.
Our duty is to promote a safe and secure environment where education, research and public service can flourish. Through our continuous efforts of working with you and our community in regards to safety - we strive to have an environment where our community’s and your achievements will be unlimited.
Please feel free to contact me or any member of our team. We wish you much success while you study, learn, teach, or conduct research at our great campus.
